Barrigada, Port Authority, Palau Community win top honors in Liberation Day Parade Float Competition

Gov. of Guam Lourdes A. Leon Guerrero and lieutenant governor Joshua F. Tenorio have announced the winners of the 81st Liberation Day Parade float competition, celebrating the island’s most anticipated holiday with the theme “Fanohge CHamoru.”

“This year’s parade was more than a celebration but a reminder of who we are and how far we’ve come,” said Tenorio in a release. “We thank every participant, volunteer, and spectator for making this an 81st Liberation Day to remember.”

In the village category, Barrigada took first place, followed by Malesso’ in second and Dededo in third.

Barrigada won first place in last year's Liberation Day Parade as well. 

In the Government of Guam category, the joint float from the Port Authority of Guam and the Department of Labor earned first place. Guam Memorial Hospital Authority secured second place, and the Department of Public Works placed third.

In the community and non-profit category, the Palau Community of Guam was recognized as the top entry.

Ambros, towing the Department of Public Works float, received special recognition for Best Tractor Unit, an award honoring excellence in vehicle preparation.

Floats were judged based on design, detail, effects, and how well they communicated this year’s theme, drawn from the opening line of Guam’s anthem. The criteria included artistic creativity, craftsmanship, use of natural elements, mechanical enhancements, and overall message.

Winning entries will receive the following prizes:
    •    1st Place: $1,200
    •    2nd Place: $900
    •    3rd Place: $600
    •    Best Tractor Unit: $200

“We thank everyone who made this parade so special, from the early morning float builders to the families who cheered along Marine Corps Drive,” Leon Guerrero said in a release. “Through your energy, talent, and heart, the meaning of ‘Fanohge CHamoru’ came alive.” mbj
