Crew 32 and Crew 36 of the CNMI Department of Fire And Emergency Medical Services provided wildfire protection in the Pacific Southwest Region. The crews were assigned for 60 days to help fight California fires with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s U.S. Forest Service.
Marine Corps Base Camp Blaz began Guam’s 15th Toys for Tots campaign on Sept. 25. The Toys for Tots campaign began in the Northern Mariana Islands on Oct. 2.
Families are encouraged to contact Catholic Social Services and the Salvation Army’s Guam Corps to sign their children up by the first week of December for toy distribution the week before Christmas.

In the Northern Mariana Islands, Marine Corps Base Camp Blaz is working the Saipan Chamber of Commerce, the First Lady Wella Foundation with the Office of the Governor, Associated Students of Northern Marianas College, and the Rota Chamber of Commerce. Members of the chambers, and government offices will act as collection points.
In collaboration with Be Heartfelt, Senator Dwayne T.D. San Nicolas hosted one of the Be Heartfelt 4th Annual Shoe Drive at his office for donations of new and or gently used
closed-toe shoes for the island’s youth from July 8 to Aug. 4. His office received 62 pairs of shoes. Be Heartfelt’s mission is to end homelessness and also supports communities in Guam and Palau, among other locations.
About 100 members who comprise the Guam Army National Guard’s Team Binadu worked more than 8,000 hours of community service, helping to reopen Guam Department of Education Schools.
Team Binadu soldiers, who were assigned to work with the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense System Task Force Talon, were due to receive the Outstand Volunteer Medal. Team Binadu will be replaced by Team Kulepbla to work with the THAAD system task force.
The Children’s Ark in conjunction with LeoPalace Resort, presents the ZOMBIE RUN 2K/5K on Oct. 19 at LeoPalace Resort Guam. The Children’s Ark supports individuals, organizations, and families in need of assistance. The event will include a haunted house, a costume contest, and more.

The 5th Tower for Humanity benefit project of the Aydlett Brothers – the Canstruction Guam Competition – kicked off at the Agana Shopping Center on Oct.1 and will continue through Oct. 13. The project is also in conjunction with the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Guam to commemorate Taiwan’s National Day on Oct. 10. The tower will represent the Taipei 101 tower. This project was a partnership with Be Heartfelt and held an island-wide food drive through September, and the second annual Canstruction Guam Competition. mbj
