(Press release)
TUMON, Guam — David A. Alcorn was named 2023 Guam Business Magazine Executive of the Year at the annual Guam Business Magazine Executive of the Year award gala held at the Hyatt Regency Guam on Jan. 13.
Born in Orange County, Calif, Alcorn moved to Honolulu, Hawaii, where he began his career in hospitality working at Smitty’s Pancake House. In 1975, Alcorn agreed to the opportunity to fly to Guam and launch King’s Restaurant on the island, which GFS would purchase in 1985 from owner Phillip A. Schmidt.
King’s now has restaurants in Tamuning at the Guam Premier Outlets and Compadres Mall in Harmon, and Alcorn has said he will expand the chain. GFS brands also include Ruby Tuesday and Domino’s at the Navy Exchange Guam.
Alcorn took his early success and experience at King’s Restaurants and began to look toward catering contracts. Global Food Services Inc was incorporated in July 2003 and won its first contract on Guam on Oct. 1, 2003, with Raytheon Technical Services Guam for the operation of food services and other Moral Welfare and Recreation activities and would launch GFS as a contractor in the field.
GFS now holds multiple U.S. Department of Defense contracts, including Naval Hospital Dietetic Patient Services; Department of Defense Education Activity’s Guam School Lunch Program; the U.S. Marine Corp.’s Regional Feeding for Camp Pendleton, Calif. and Camp Lejeune, N.C. as a subcontractor, and consulting for Sodexo Guam for the Guam Department of Education’s School Lunch Feeding contract.
GFS supports a number of non-profits and community events.
Alcorn is featured on the cover of the Guam Business Magazine January-February issue, which was released at the gala.
