Domie Buraga Bumagat Jr., president and CEO of Great National Insurance Underwriters Inc., passed away at the age of 59 years.
Great National Insurance Underwriters was founded in September 1973 by the late Domie Bumagat Sr., his father, and his late mother, Edarlina Bumagat would also devote time to the business.
Domie Bumagat took over the leadership of the company 25 years later. Among his accomplishments was the introduction of the use of computers at Great National in the issuance of policies, notices and billings was initiated, and ensuring the use of typewriters gave way to the new technology.
Marilou Liao Besagar, general manager at Great National, said the dedication of the Bumagats was responsible for the company’s original success, particularly as it grew to offer many lines of insurance as well as risk management.
Besagar said Domie Bumagat Jr. had “a profound and multifaceted impact on my professional life and personal growth. Jun, as he was affectionately known, was far more than an employer; he was a steadfast mentor, an unwavering source of encouragement, and a genuine confidant who truly believed in my capabilities.”
She said Bumagat possessed a rare and authentic spirit. “He was a leader who never shied away from his true self, and it was precisely his distinctive perspectives, his candidness, and even his acknowledged human imperfections that cultivated an environment of genuine connection and garnered immense respect from all who knew him. He was truly one of a kind.”
Domie Buraga Bumagat Jr. is survived by his wife, Vilma Legaspi Bumagat, and their children Aaron, Arielle, Aisaiah and their families, as well as his siblings and their families, and colleagues and friends in the U.S. mainland, Canada, Taiwan and the Philippines. mbj
