More than 30 local businesses from the real estate, automotive sales, construction, drone, and other industries attended the Guam Association for Career and Technical Education mixer. The Guam Department of Education sponsored the event with CarsPlus, hosting it at the Maite showroom on Feb. 26.
GuACTE is a professional organization made up of member volunteers from businesses and schools that aims to help bridge the gap between what students are learning in school and what the professional community needs in terms of skills and the jobs that they are looking to fill currently and in the near future.
This was GuACTE’s first mixer, designed to foster networking between teachers and businesses. The event also served as the kickoff for the 2025 Career and Technical Education Summit, which featured workshops and discussions centered on the theme Education and the Working Economy. The summit continued through Feb. 27–28, with panel discussions at the University of Guam lecture hall and workshops at John F. Kennedy High School.
More than 200 educators from Guam DOE and Guam Community College attended the mixer at CarsPlus. Incoming President Charlie Hermosa and the GuACTE board are planning additional mixers and interactive partnership development events to strengthen collaboration between educators and industry professionals.
