Guam AutoSpot has announced there will be no increases for Mitsubishi or Buick GMC vehicles.
The Journal is giving readers the April 10 release in its entirety in view of the importance of the subject matter.
“In light of the recent announcement from President Donald Trump regarding the imposition of a 25% tariff on imported automobiles and auto parts into the United States, Guam AutoSpot is reassuring its customers and the community that these tariffs will not impact vehicle pricing on Guam.
“Guam AutoSpot confirms that Guam and the CNMI are not included in the “customs territory of the United States,” as defined under federal trade laws, and are therefore exempt from the newly imposed tariffs.
This means that Guam AutoSpot’s vehicle imports — including Mitsubishi and Buick GMC models — will not be subject to the 25% tariff, as long as they are imported into Guam from manufacturing facilities in Asia or other foreign regions.
“We want to be crystal clear with our community: AutoSpot will not be raising vehicle prices due to the new tariffs. Our customers can continue to shop with confidence knowing that our pricing remains fair and unaffected,” said Derrick Muna Quinata, president of Guam AutoSpot.
“The exemption is supported by Section 604 of the Trade Act of 1974 and Title 19 CFR § 146.1, both of which exclude Guam and the CNMI from the “customs territory of the United States.” This has also been confirmed in published guidance from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which acknowledges Guam and the CNMI as outside the scope of U.S. tariff laws.
“While Guam AutoSpot will continue to monitor federal developments, there is no change to our operations or pricing structure at this time. All locally assessed taxes and fees will continue to apply as usual, but no additional federal tariffs will be passed on to customers.” mbj
