Micronesia Mall evacuated after smoke reported near loading dock

At around 7 p.m. on Nov. 22, the Micronesia Mall evacuated patrons after what appeared to be exhaust emitting from its back up power generators.

About 30 to 40 minutes earlier, the power had gone out and the mall’s backup generators activated.
The Journal observed a large volume of smoke near the men’s Macy’s entrance and the loading dock area, limiting visibility to about 15 feet.

Guam Fire Department spokesperson Nick Garrido told reporters that “there was one 911 call made. However, mall security was contacted and GFD units made a check at the mall with negative findings.”
The Journal has reached out to the Micronesia Mall regarding the incident but has not yet received a comment. mbj
