Guam MAC contracts awarded; USN, RSN exercises continue
Guam’s smaller contractors are building positive profiles for military construction work in Guam.
Meanwhile, military exercises in the region continue to bring military personnel to the islands.
Two Guam companies have both received awards for repair for projects at island military installations.
Modern International Inc. was awarded a $15.18 million firm-fixed-price contract for “repairs to the airfield electrical conduit and glideslope system” at Andersen Air Force Base, according to a June 6 release CHamoru Standard Time from the U.S. Department of Defense.
Work is expected to be completed by Nov. 20, 2026. The award “was a competitive acquisition,” the release said, with five offers received. The 36th Contracting Squadron, at Andersen made the award.
Serrano Construction and Development Corp. was awarded an $8.5 million firm-fixed-price contract for various repairs to Chapel 1. Work is expected to be completed by Aug. 16, 2027.
The contract was “a competitive acquisition” the release said with eight offers received, according to the DoD release. The 36th Contracting Squadron at Andersen made that award also.
Both companies were among 10 companies named under a multiple award, design-build construction contract with a ceiling of $700 million to perform “design and build, minor construction, facility, and real property repair and alteration projects on an as-needed basis.”
Off the coast of Guam, the U.S. and the Republic of Singapore navies kicked off its Pacific Griffin 2025 exercise on June 7.
Pacific Griffin 2025 is the fifth of the two nations’ biennial exercise. The last time it was hosted was in 2023 and is an extension of the Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training exercise series.

According to a June 7 statement by Destroyer Squadron 7, a U.S. Navy unit involved in the exercise, the RSN has two vessels participating in the exercise: the RSS Supreme and RSS Sovereignty.
Several U.S. vessels are participating in the exercise including the Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer USS William P Lawrence according to DESRON 7.
Exercises include anti-submarine and anti-air warfare events, and maritime interdiction operations among other command-and-control tactics and procedures training. mbj
