At the July regular monthly meeting, the Mayor’s Council of Guam, led by Jesse Alig, president of the council and mayor of Piti moved to finalize a comprehensive fee schedule for the use of community facilities. Alig emphasized the urgency, saying, “I don't really want to keep this lingering. I would like to wrap it up in the form of legislation.”

Melissa Savares, mayor of Dededo said the proposed schedule was discussed at the previous meeting, and includes fees for both day and night use, as well as newly constructed facilities like outdoor gyms and arts centers. Savares said, " Those additional facilities have been added, as well as a request for Mayor (Rudy) Paco (mayor of Mong Mong-Toto-Maite) to add verifications, chairs, and canopies." Savares outlined these additions and suggested sending out a final draft for review before the next meeting.
Robert Hoffman, vice president and mayor of Sinajana proposed a flexible approach to accommodate future facilities. "Do it by square feet," Hoffman said, to account for differences like AV tech equipment, which affects costs.
Alig concurred, urging for a generic labeling system. He said, “I'm not trying to make it difficult; I'm trying to make it easier for the future as well.”
The council aims to draft the legislation and seek sponsorship, possibly from Senator Dwayne San Nicolas’ office, to streamline its passage through the legislature. mbj
