
As of December 2025, the island had 7,100 active-duty military personnel in Guam.
That’s 827 more than about five years ago. As of Sept. 30, 2021, which was the end of fiscal 2021, the number of active-duty personnel was 6,273.
Numbers do fluctuate; the number of active-duty personnel in 2023 was 6,067.
The numbers of active-duty personnel currently include about 150 Marines at Marine Corps Camp Blaz according to Camp Blaz. According to Journal files, about 105 Marines were set to arrive in Guam at the end of December. Those Marines were logistics personnel and joined what Camp Blaz told the Journal at the time were “fewer than 100 personnel already stationed at Camp Blaz.”
According to the Defense Manpower Center, the number of active-duty Army personnel in Guam as of March 31 was 249. The number of Army personnel in Guam has been slowly increasing, according to Defense Manpower Center files.
The Defense Manpower Center noted that its numbers do not include contractors or personnel deployed to Guam on temporary duty.
As of early 2025, there were 5,055 civilian employees working on Guam’s bases, and 9,202 military family members in Guam. Of the family members, about 2,400 were students at the Department of War Education Activity’s four schools in Guam.
U.S. bases contribute to local economies.
Andersen Air Force Base’s 2014 economic impact assessment calculated the total economic impact value at $646 million for fiscal 2014, which included payroll, construction, services, indirect jobs created and retiree payroll. For fiscal 2022, Andersen’s economic impact was a little more than $502 million. mbj
