Palau's President Surangel S. Whipps Jr. recently wrapped up a whirlwind trip to Brisbane, Australia focused on bolstering tourism and trade ties between the two nations while also promoting the Palau Paradise Express, Qantas's direct flight connecting Brisbane and Palau.
President Whipps engaged directly with representatives of Australia's tourism sector and the Australia Pacific Islands Business Council. He shared a vivid picture of Palau as a must-visit destination committed to sustainability. Palau is a favorite diving destination for many around the world, including Australians. Palau officials have said that travel between the two nations has increased.
A delegation of Australian travel journalists traveled to Palau on Feb. 1 with Whipps for a familiarization tour that allows them to experience for themselves the natural beauty and unique cultural experiences.

"The Palau Paradise Express is far more than just a convenient flight route," President Whipps emphasized. "It's a tangible representation of the strong bonds and deepening cooperation between Palau and Australia. We greatly value Australia's support in diversifying Palau's economy and strengthening our resilience, particularly as we navigate the post-pandemic landscape."
For two years, the Australia-Pacific Partnerships for Aviation program has supported this vital air connection. Starting with Air Niugini and Nauru Airlines, and now proudly operated by Qantas, the Palau Paradise Express is a testament to a shared vision of regional connectivity.

"This direct link has significantly boosted the exchange of tourists, professionals, and cargo between our countries," President Whipps added. "It builds on the already strong people-to-people connections, paving the way for Palau to become a key gateway linking Asia with the North and South Pacific regions."
President Whipps concluded his visit with heartfelt appreciation for the Australian government and its people. "This collaboration is a prime example of how we can build a stronger, more resilient, and integrated Pacific region, together," he stated, leaving a lasting impression of Palau's commitment to growth and partnership. mbj
