Local and federal partners will begin work June 1 to clear damaged vessels from Smiling Cove, which is near to American the Memorial Park in Garapan.
Companies retained are Oil Spill Response Operations Co., a subsidiary of Cabras Marine Corp. and T&T Salvage — a national group. Both companies have previously worked together in Saipan and with the U.S. Coast Guard Guam and Micronesia.
Agencies besides the Coast Guard involved in the month-long project are the Northern Mariana Islands Department of Lands and Natural Resources, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
The effort is funded through FEMA under the active Presidential Disaster Declaration for the NMI, according to a May 29 release.
