Some government of Guam employees may not get paid on time Friday, Jan. 5, because of a "critical system error" while processing payroll, according to a press release from Adelup.
Officials said in the press release that the government has "more than enough cash is on hand" to meet the payroll obligation.
The Department of Administration reported that the AS400 was processing payroll will the error occurred and that it may cause a delay in paychecks.
"The exact cause of the error is unknown, but the agency remains focused on delivering payroll as timely as possible. When employees receive payroll is dependent on their individual financial institution. Some GovGuam employees may receive payroll based on their previous payroll amount by tomorrow and others by Monday," according to the press release.
The AS400 is decades old. DOA is preparing to launch a new system, Financial Management Information System, but officials don't disclose when it will be in place. The new system, however, is reported to allow regular data back up, preserving newly keyed or imported system data and preventing similar issues and delays in processing payroll.
DOA will provide updates. Employees with issues are asked to contact the DOA Payroll Department at 671-475-1292. mbj
