Gov. Lourdes A. Leon Guerrero, in a June 21 letter to Attorney General Douglas Moylan, reported that she has received complaints of price gouging by electricians who are taking advantage of the devastation left by Typhoon Mawar.
She said there some electricians who are allegedly charging double, sometimes triple, the typical to repair weatherheads and electrical components of homes that were damaged by the typhoon.
The Guam Power Authority requires customers to hire master electricians to repair weatherheads and electrical components before GPA crews can safely restore power to homes.
“I am concerned there may be individuals preying on people’s desperation, and violating the Consumer Protection Law,” Leon Guerrrero wrote. The letter can be read by clicking here. mbj
