The Guam Hotel & Restaurant Association will host the Pacific Hotel and Restaurant Association Expo on July 10-11 at the Hyatt Regency Guam.
Intended for professionals within the hotel and restaurant industry as well as for companies to showcase their brand, the exposition will feature the current changes in industry trends and developments in technology and concepts with over 2,000 attendees expected to take part.
In addition, GHRA has partnered with the Guam Economic Development Authority and the Western United States Agricultural Trade Association to introduce products from the Asia-Pacific region. In addition, GHRA will relaunch the Guam Brand training program to ready local business owners in brand development, marketing and management strategies in conjunction with the Guam Visitor’s Bureau, training professionals, and subject matter experts according to the organization in a press release.
The exposition will host four different events to provide training and networking and branding opportunities for attendees.
On July 10, the Guest Service Gold Standard Training will be held at 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. This training program will prepare employees for the Certified Guest Service Professional exam and will demonstrate how to provide excellent level service for guests. This training program will continue to the next day, July 11, at 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Additionally, the Guam Brand “Hafa Adai Spirit” and Service Training will also be held on July 10 at 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. This training serves as an essential training for employees in the tourism industry. This training will also continue to July 11 at 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
On July 11, the Culinary Management Apprentice Competition and the Culinary Management Pro Competition at 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
The Culinary Management Pro Competition will allow professional culinary teams to enhance their daily specials with local ingredients and products in collaboration with hotels and restaurants.
The Culinary Management Apprentice Competition will have aspiring chefs and apprentices to work alongside with executive chefs and food and beverage teams to utilize local ingredients to create a dish.
Sponsorship opportunities are available for each of these events for exhibitors to include their product or tie in their brand to the training and competitions starting at $2,500. The Pink Ball is open to members of the community looking to help realize the organization’s mission of helping at-risk-populations; specifically, those afflicted by cancer and Guam’s youth.
This year’s celebration’s theme is “Love Rocks” and will benefit Guam Cancer Care, Harvest House and the Edward M. Calvo Cancer Foundation.
Live musical entertainment will be performed by Filipino-Australian rock singer Miguel Alfonso Ramon Legarda Ayesa and American rock singer Constantine J. Maroulis.
Trixie Naholowaa-Torres, secretary for the Filipino Community of Guam Executive Board and assistant secretary to the Pink Ball Guam Association, affirms that the organization remains committed to their mission to contributing to the welfare for Guam’s vulnerable individuals.

The theme for this year’s conference is “THRIVE: Leading the Charge!”

Victim Advocates Reaching Out will be hosting its 3rd Annual Purple Gala at 6 p.m. on Oct. 12 at the Hyatt Regency Guam’s Grand Ballroom.
A 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, VARO provides services assisting victims of domestic violence, abuse, rape, and other traumatic events. Their mission is to provide a safe and resilient community and to empower victims of traumatic events.
The theme for this year’s gala is “Gupot CHamoru Fotmåt" (A Formal CHamoru Party/Celebration) to celebrate CHamoru culture and to recognize the generosity of the community in Guam.
About 400 people are expected to attend the Purple Gala this year, according to Trina San Agustin, program coordinator at the Guam Community College and vice president of the board of directors of VARO. The organization expects a sold-out event for this year’s gala with ticket sales closing and reopening on three occasions for last year’s own.
The evening will include entertainment, raffle prizes, and uplifting stories from the organization. Proceeds of the gala will go towards the for their victim support services as well as operating costs to continue to service the community.
Ticket and table prices and availability will be made available by the end of July. VARO are seeking sponsors for the event. Prospective sponsors can contact (671) 477-5552 for more information regarding donations directly to the organization or towards the raffle drawing during the event.
The Guam Business Magazine’s “40 under Forty” cocktail reception will return on Nov. 1 at the Hyatt Regency Guam after a five-year absence.
A celebration of the industry changing work of some of the younger businesspeople in the region, the “40 under Forty” is the magazine’s list of Guam’s and the Northern Mariana Island’s most influential and innovative businesspeople under the age of 40.
Maureen N. Maratita, publisher of Glimpses Media, which includes the Marianas Business Journal and Guam Business Magazine, plans on recognizing notables with a Community Spirit Award, a Continued Excellence Award, an Industry Influential Award, a Brand Innovator Award and a Most Promising Award.
“A number of past participants have ‘aged out’ and we wish them well in their continuing careers. We have been keeping an eye on this very active group of under-40s, and already have several participants in mind. That shouldn’t stop any organization or anybody reaching out to us,” she said.
Between 100 to 200 are expected to attend the event with participants welcome to bring guests. Additionally, Maratita said the magazine will expect sponsors to provide for the evening’s festivities.
Additionally, for those looking towards next year, Maratita said the Guam Business Magazine Executive of the Year gala will be held on Feb. 1 at the Hyatt Regency Guam as well.

The Guam Post of the Society of American Military Engineers, with support from the Guam Contractor’s Association and the Guam Chamber of Commerce, will host its third Guam Industry Forum 2024 from Nov. 14 to Nov. 15 at the Dusit Thani Guam Resort.
Noel Enriquez, principal for A&N Consulting and fellow of the Society of American Military Engineers, says the forum will provide information on the military expansion projects happening on Guam and in the region for companies to take part in.
Ultimately, the forum aims to convene private companies and leadership from the United States military and the Government of Guam as well as connect companies from the U.S. and allied nations to local businesses with the goal of exploring opportunities and partnerships.
With a budget of $11 billion designated for the expansion of military facilities in the region, the forum is a lucrative opportunity for construction contractors, engineers, architects, suppliers and service providers to network with local and military resources and organizations to collaborate on the development of the U.S. strategic defense initiative and highlight issues related to developments of the industry in the region.

A Guam-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the goal for the APAFS is to increase the level of understanding standards of practice of fiduciaries in the Asia and Pacific region. The organization hosts local and regional conferences to address growing concerns relevant to the organization’s members as well as institute educational programs at the collegiate level.
This four-day event provides industry professionals with an opportunity to partake in training to develop and refine strategies to provide for the beneficiaries under their care.
