The U.S. Navy’s largest aircraft carrier is due in port at Naval Base Guam from Friday, April 18 to Sunday, April 20, CHamoru Standard Time.
The Nimitz typically has around 5,000 to 6,000 personnel on board, including the ship's crew, the air wing, and any embarked staff. This includes officers, enlisted personnel, and air crew.
The Nimitz made two port calls to Guam in 2023, according to Journal files. The aircraft carrier was one of three ships that provided post-typhoon assistance after Typhoon Mawar hit Guam in May of that year.
The ship is the oldest American aircraft carrier in active service and was commissioned on May 3, 1975. The carrier is due to be de-commissioned in May 2026. mbj
