United Airlines has applied to the U.S. Department of Transportation for slots on the Guam-Haneda, Tokyo route of five weekly flights. United confirmed to Live and Let Fly, that if granted the slots, the airline would drop one of the current Guam-Narita flights.
In addition, United is applying for flights on the Haneda-Houston route, and confirmed to Live and Let Fly that it would no longer fly from Narita to Houston if the application was approved.
Bank of Guam has launched a new slate of online savings products for residents of the islands.
For Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands, the bank is offering True Savings Plus, which offers an “annual percentage yield” of 3.04% interest. Residents will be charged for in-branch services but can use ATMs for transactions without charge. True Savings is also offered with an annual APY of 0.10%. BOG is also offering additional Pacific Express products. Accounts can also be opened in-branch on “personal devices.”
For residents of Palau, the Federated States of Micronesia and the Marshall Islands, BOG has launched a Senior Savings account with a Visa Debit Card. Bill 173-37 (COR) was introduced by Speaker Therese M. Terlaje on Sept. 22, proposing to extend the Guam Power Authority’s $100 energy credits for an additional three months from October to December. If no action is taken by the 37th Guam Legislature and there is no approval by the Governor by October, customers will no longer receive the monthly $100 credit on their power bills from October, GPA said.

The U.S. Department of Defense Office of Local Defense Community Cooperation released its fiscal 2022 Defense Spending by State report.
Defense spending fell to $558.7 billion (or 2.2% of gross domestic product) as the federal government “ramped down its response to the COVID-19 pandemic,” DoD said. “Contract obligations and payroll spending in the 50 states and the District of Columbia decreased by $10.1 billion over the prior year,” due to a 2.3% decrease in DoD contract obligations and a 0.06% decrease in payroll spending.
A supplemental report of DoD contract, personnel, and grant spending in Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, and the Virgin Islands is forthcoming, DoD said.
