Lee Siyoung, an entertainer and actress in two Netflix original series, visited Saipan and Rota on Sept. 15-21 with family and friends, generating more than $500,000 in public relations exposure, according to the Marianas Visitors Authority.
Her visit highlighted family-friendly activities as well as those suitable for a group of friends traveling together. She shared her experience in 15 posts on her official Instagram account, generating media coverage.
Lee has more than 3.4 million followers on her Instagram account. Her visit was covered by OSEN, Sports Chosun, Sports Korea, Herald POP, News 1, and other media outlets. Lee lodged at Saipan World Resort and Aqua Resort Club Saipan during her visit.
“Saipan was such a perfect place to relax with my family and expect some adventure in nature,” Lee said, who expressed special delight in her hike to Forbidden Island beach. “Saipan's natural attractions were inspiring on a different level. I would love to come back to Saipan and focus on exploring all the trekking routes on the island.”
Lee visited Managaha for board and beach snorkeling, SeaWalking and parasailing.
She also took an ATV tour, visited popular diving spot Grotto, sample standup paddling, had a marine animal encounter with SeaTouch, toured the historic and scenic sites of Marpi, and took a day tour of Rota.
“Heartbreakingly pristine nature and more stars than Saipan,” Lee said about Rota. “I still can't get over how beautiful it was. It is the best to swim in the ocean with no one around!”
Lee plays a lead character in the Netflix original fantasy series “Sweet Home,” which premiered in December 2020. Sweet Home was the first South Korean series to enter Netflix's Top 10 in the United States, reaching as high as third. On Aug. 8, 2023, she also co-starred in the Netflick’s horror series “Zombieverse.” Lee was nominated for Best Actress in 2021 at both the Asian Academy Creative Awards and the Asia Contents Awards.
“As an established actress who often portrays strong, athletic characters, Lee Siyoung is a perfect person to showcase the many outdoor activities available in The Marianas,” said MVA Managing Director Christopher A. Concepcion. “We are grateful to have the opportunity to partner with her on this promotion, and of course, we would love to have her again in our islands.” mbj
