Two opportunities for training in the tourism and construction fields are available for island residents with enrollment for both open this month.
The GCA Trades Academy announced that a crane operations course will be offered to the first 20 students.
The four-month course will serve as a primer for an upcoming crane certification course offered in February 2025.
According to the academy, the curriculum will be tailored for second-language learners and will address basic crane operations.
“This course presents a great opportunity for students to gain valuable skills in a high-demand field,” said GCA Trade Academy’s education director, Bert Johnston in a Sept. 11 release.
The class will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. starting on Sept. 24 and will end on Jan. 30. Course tuition will be $1,620 which will include the course’s textbook.
Upon completion of this course, students will receive complimentary access to the crane certification course in February, valued at $750.

In the tourism field, the Guam Visitors Bureau in collaboration with the Guam Community College, Guam Department of Labor, and the Japan Guam Travel Association will host a bus driver boot camp with registration open through Sept. 27.
The 12-week program, starting on Oct. 14, will prepare students for class B and D licensing, allowing them to operate tour buses.
Participants will receive free training, paid licensing feeds, a stipend, and a guaranteed job placement upon successful completion of the course.
According to a Sept. 12 release, the initiative was launched to address the shortage in manpower in ground transportation in the tourism industry.
Applicants can apply at the American Job Center in the GCIC building in Hagatna.
