SAIPAN—While Hyatt Regency Saipan and Asiana Airlines have said adieu to the CNMI, several small businesses, including a home construction company, have opened shop or introduced new offerings despite the bland economy brought about by timid tourism arrivals.

A steady trickle of awards is coming from the Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command Pacific for work in the Micronesian islands.
 

Leaders of the Micronesian region are slated to meet in early June to discuss issues ranging from tourism and the economy to bleaching coral reef and climate change.
